Industrial uncoated wood-free printing paper operations face challenges due to hardwood vessel elements, resulting in vessel picking and ink refusal issues. The adoption of mechanical refining, though necessary for resolving these issues, sadly results in a decrease in the quality of the paper. Modifying vessel adhesion to the fiber network and reducing hydrophobicity through enzymatic passivation is a method for improving paper quality. We seek to determine how xylanase treatment, along with a cocktail of cellulases and laccases, modifies the porosity, bulk and surface chemical properties of elemental chlorine free bleached Eucalyptus globulus vessels and fibers. Vessel structure, as revealed by thermoporosimetry, displayed enhanced porosity; surface analysis indicated a reduced O/C ratio; and bulk chemistry analysis highlighted a higher hemicellulose content. The effects of enzymes on the porosity, bulk, and surface composition of fibers and vessels were multifaceted, influencing their adhesion and hydrophobicity. Papers on vessels treated with xylanase displayed a 76% decrease in vessel picking count, while the vessel picking count plummeted by 94% for papers on vessels exposed to the enzymatic cocktail. Fiber sheets, measured at (541), showed a lower water contact angle than sheets rich in vessels (637). This was further decreased by xylanase application (621) and cocktail treatment (584). It is suggested that the distinct porosity characteristics of vessels and fibers play a role in enzymatic reactions, ultimately causing the passivation of vessels.

The orthobiologics supply chain underwent optimization, resulting in cost savings, using a three-step process. A coculture system, comprising K562 cells and various Cx43-modified bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs), was established while under IM treatment. Assessing the function and potential mechanism of Cx43 involved determining proliferation, cell cycle progression, apoptosis, and additional indicators in multiple K562 cell groups.
